Radio host Joe Piscopo would be a “test case” for celebrity politicians if he chooses to run for governor of New Jersey, according to an Monday interview on MSNBC.

A run by Piscopo would be similar to the candidacies of President Donald Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who rode a wave of personal popularity, according to MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle.

“If he runs, Piscopo would inevitably be judged as a test case of whether Trump-style populism is the secret to getting celebrity politicians into office,” Ruhle said.

The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member said he is not making a political statement about Republicans or Democrats if he runs.

“If I run, it will be for the governor of New Jersey, not against and/or for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, or any of the Republicans or any of the Democrats,” Piscopo said.

The native of New Jersey said he would focus on serving the people of his home state.

“In Jersey, man, we get no respect,” he said. “We’re like the Rodney Dangerfield of states. There’s something wrong with me to want to do this. But I’m feeling it, because I’m hearing it from the people.”

“I’m of the people,” he added. “Nobody ever thinks about the people when they run for office.”

The host of “The Joe Piscopo Show” on New Jersey’s AM 970 is a comedian and was a “Saturday Night Live” cast member from 1980 to 1985, according to AM 970’s website.

Piscopo told NJ Advance Media on Friday running for office would be “fun.”

“I want to keep everything nice,” he said. “I don’t want it to be nasty. I just want to make a fun, rogue run, and if I go in, I’ll go in to win.”
