President Trump on Tuesday made a last-minute pitch on social media for Ron Estes, the Republican candidate running in a special congressional election in Kansas.
“Ron Estes is running TODAY for Congress in the Great State of Kansas. A wonderful guy, I need his help on Healthcare & Tax Cuts (Reform),” the president tweeted.
Mr. Trump also cut a last-minute robocall on behalf of Mr. Estes in the contest, where he faces Democrat James Thompson. The race is to fill a vacancy left by former GOP Rep. Mike Pompeo, who is now the director of the CIA.
The president carried the district by 27 points in the 2016 election, but a last-minute flurry of lobbying on both sides suggests a closer outcome on Tuesday.
