A former Equinox fitness club employee on Saturday shot at two of his former managers in a busy South Florida mall, and then killed himself, the Miami Herald reports.

Equinox general manager Janine Ackerman and fitness manager Marios Hortis were wounded, and both were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Hortis, 42, was conscious, witnesses told the Herald, but Ackerman, 35, wasn’t moving.

The shooter, Abeku Wilson, was a 33-year-old “body building enthusiast” and University of Miami graduate. He showed up at Equinox just before 1 p.m. at the Shops at Merrick Park in his Equinox uniform, raised a handgun and aimed it at a man behind the counter.

Wilson fired off five shots, said Ovi Viera, a witness.

“It was too loud for it to have been a weight dropping. Within two seconds, people just started running out,” she told the Herald.

Lily Kubli, a designer at a Brazilian furniture store in the mall, said, “a woman ran in who had been at Equinox and said she had heard three to four shots and that there was a man in a pool of blood.”

A man who was at the gym during the shooting told the Herald Wilson seemed agitated earlier in the day after meeting with management.

“There was a dance class of 40 people if he wanted to do that. This was personal,” said the man.
