Rep. Joe Wilson, who in 2009 famously shouted “You lie!” at then-President Barack Obama during a joint address to Congress, got a taste of his own medicine at a rowdy town hall meeting Monday.

The South Carolina Republican drew loud jeers from the crowd of about 200 people when he spoke about health care and violence against women at Aiken Technical College in Graniteville.

One of the loudest protests came after Mr. Wilson, who voted against extending the Violence Against Women Act in 2013, said he supported local efforts to “make sure that violence against women is fully enforced,” The Post and Courier reported.

That statement was reportedly met with a 30-second interruption of attendees shouting “You lie!” at the congressman.

Mr. Wilson was also criticized by the crowd for backing the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare and for supporting President Trump’s missile strikes in Syria, the newspaper reported.

Mr. Wilson stayed for nearly an hour after the event to answer more questions.

“I always learn a lot,” he said of the town halls, The Post and Courier reported.
