Alex Jones, a talk show host and conspiracy theorist, lashed out Tuesday afternoon at White House spokesman Sean Spicer for comments about Adolf Hitler’s use of chemical weapons in World War II.

“What the hell is that from Sean Spicer?” Mr. Jones, said, reported The Hill newspaper. He added that it showed “how historically ignorant his crew is,” according to The Hill. ”[The Nazis] used chemical weapons in World War II.”

Mr. Spicer sparked social-media mockery and outrage — the Anne Frank Center, for one, has called for the White House spokesman to be fired —  Tuesday afternoon with references in the daily press briefing essentially marking out Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad as more diabolical than Adolf Hitler.

“You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” Mr. Spicer said at one point, trying to clarify moments later, “He was not using the gas on his own people in the same way that Assad is doing.”

Nerve gas was one method used in the mass execution of German Jews rounded up into the Third Reich’s concentration camps.

While Mr. Jones recently apologized for promoting a conspiracy theory about a Washington, D.C. pizzeria being a front for a child sex-trafficking ring, the InfoWars anchor is perhaps best known for denying that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut actually happened.
