New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday called out White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer over a reference to Adolf Hitler in Tuesday’s press briefing.

“Here should be a general rule for anyone involved in public life. Don’t bring up Hitler ever,” Mr. Christie said on “Fox & Friends.” “You can’t win in any conversation about Hitler.”

Mr. Christie added, “He made a mistake, he apologized for it, but the fact of the matter is you never bring up Hitler.”

Mr. Spicer had tried to draw a comparison between Syrian President Bashar Assad’s suspected use of chemical weapons to Hitler, saying not even the German leader used such weapons on his people in the same manner as Mr. Assad.

He later apologized for the comparison and said he meant that the weapons were not used on the World War II battlefield.

Mr. Christie, a former 2016 GOP presidential candidate, also said President Trump will find a way to pay for the border wall as Attorney General Jeff Sessions wraps his tour of the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I think the president will be able to figure out a way to pay for it,” Mr. Christie said. “It’s a big budget.”
